Why We Always Quote In Person - Not from Photos

We get asked all the time: “Can you just give me a quote from pictures or the house size?”

While photos and square footage help us give a ballpark idea, an accurate quote always comes from seeing the job in person - and here’s why.

🧱 Every Job Is Different

No two homes are the same, even if they look similar from a few photos. An in-person visit lets us assess:

  • Wall condition (cracks, holes, peeling paint, stains)

  • Surface type (drywall, plaster, wood, etc.)

  • Previous coatings (latex vs. oil-based)

  • Ceiling height and access points

  • Trim, doors, and detailed areas

  • Layout, lighting, and even furniture placement

A photo can easily hide all of that. But in-person, we can plan properly and avoid surprises.

⚖️ Why It Matters for Accuracy

When a job is quoted without a proper on-site assessment, a few things can happen:

  1. The quote is too low: The painter may have to rush or cut corners to stay within budget, affecting quality and longevity.

  2. The quote is too high: To “play it safe” and cover unknowns, you might end up paying more than necessary - or feel intimidated by the cost.

  3. Unexpected changes occur: Important details can be missed, leading to adjustments in the scope of work, additional costs, or delays.

Neither outcome is good for anyone. Seeing the space ensures the quote is fair and realistic - for both sides.

Variables That Affect Price and Process

A few examples of what we look for during a site visit:

  • Surface repairs: More patching = more prep time.

  • Paint type and colour: Some colours need multiple coats or special bases.

  • Lighting conditions: Changes how we plan colour coverage.

  • Accessibility: Stairwells, vaulted ceilings, or tight spaces all affect time.

  • Moisture or damage: May require specialized products.

These are all things that can’t be seen or measured from photos.

🏁 The Takeaway

An in-person quote isn’t about making things complicated - it’s about making them accurate. It ensures your quote reflects the real work, materials, and time needed - no guessing, no hidden costs, no surprises later. We come prepared.

That’s how we keep our quotes honest, our work professional, and your results consistent.
